Help with costs of visiting a child receiving inpatient care in hospital

You may be eligible for help with costs related to visiting someone under 18 getting inpatient hospital care. Inpatient means they live in hospital while getting their care or treatment.

You cannot apply for help with the costs of outpatient visits. Outpatient means they do not live in hospital while getting treatment.

You may be able to get help from the Young Patients Family Fund to cover the cost of accommodation, food, and travel. To qualify, you must live in Scotland and be one of these:

  • parent
  • primary carer
  • younger sibling (under 18)

You must apply to the Young Patients Family Fund for help within 3 months of the child or young person getting out of hospital.
