How a trust deed could affect you

Applying for credit

You can still apply for credit, but it may be more difficult to get accepted for credit and it may affect your ability to make payments to your trust deed. If you take on any new debts after you sign the trust deed, you cannot include them in the trust deed and you will not be protected from legal action by your new creditors.

Credit rating

Your credit rating will be affected for six years from the date the trust deed begins.

Work

Some employers do not allow people who have signed a trust deed to work for them. The most common is financial institutions. Before you sign a trust deed, you should check the terms of your contract or speak to your employer.

You cannot be a company director, unless agreed with your trustee.
