Support is available when your caring role ends.
There's help to access work or education. Or bereavement support if the person has died.
Help to return to work, education or volunteering
You can get help to return to work or education from:
- a free employability service – find help on Employability in Scotland
- My World of Work
- your local careers centre – find careers centres on Skills Development Scotland
- training and advice on Carers Scotland
You can search for volunteering roles on Volunteer Scotland.
If the person you cared for has died
Support is available if the person you cared for has died, including:
- what to do when someone dies
- bereavement support from Cruse Scotland
- bereavement support from your local carer centre
- death and bereavement support on NHS inform
- help from other support organisations
- benefits and help with money
You may be able to get Funeral Support Payment to help towards funeral costs. You can get this up to 6 months after the date of the funeral.

There may be other government organisations you need to tell about the death. This is so they can check for things such as:
- records they need to update
- outstanding payments

Effect on benefits and other financial help
No longer caring for someone can affect your benefits or other financial help you're getting.
You should report a change in your circumstances to the organisations that pay benefits or payments to you.
Report a change of circumstances to the Department for Work and Pensions on GOV.UK or tell Social Security Scotland.
