Apply for a Level 2 with barred list check
A Level 2 with barred list check shows criminal record information. It also shows if you're barred from work with children or protected adults.
It helps organisations make sure you're suitable for the activities you're applying for. It used to be called an enhanced disclosure.
What a Level 2 with barred list check is used for
It's only used for specific activities, such as:
- adopting a child
- providing a home for the Homes for Ukraine scheme
It's also used if you:
- share a household with a foster carer or childminder
- live on school premises with school care accommodation and you do not work for the school or attend as a pupil (for example, a boarding school)
- share a household with a shared lives carer (this is where a person receives their care in the carer’s home, so has contact with their family)
The organisation you're working with will tell you if you need this disclosure.
What a Level 2 with barred list check shows
A Level 2 with barred list check shows:
- unspent convictions
- certain spent convictions
- certain spent childhood convictions and children’s hearings outcomes
- any notification requirements (instructions someone must follow if they're placed on the Sex Offenders Register)
- unspent cautions (but not a childhood caution)
- other relevant information held by the police
It also shows:
- if you're on the barred lists for work with children or adults
- if you're under consideration for inclusion on the barred lists for work with children or adults
- if you've had any prescribed civil court orders
How to apply
It's a two-stage process:
- An organisation needs to start the application for you.
- You then get an email with a link to complete the application.
You cannot apply until the organisation starts the application. You'll be asked to sign in using ScotAccount before you apply, or to create an account if you not have one.
ScotAccount is a secure way to access public services online. It makes accessing services easier because you can use one account to sign in to different services and verify your personal information.
Sharing your disclosure
Disclosure Scotland usually processes applications within 14 days, unless they need more information.
Once it's processed Disclosure Scotland will send you an email. This will have a secure link to sign in and view your disclosure.
When you view your disclosure you can then share it with the organisation you applied with.
Cost
It costs £25 for a Level 2 with barred list check.
