What you can expect from your dentist
Your dentist will tell you:
- your treatment options
- what treatment can be done under the NHS
- how much your treatment costs
- about any changes to your treatment
If you're registered your dentist can provide any NHS dental treatment you need to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy.
Your dentist can't:
- ask you to be a private patient to give your child NHS treatment
- ask you to have a private check-up before they register you as an NHS patient
- persuade you to have private treatment instead of NHS
- tell you that treatment you need isn't available on the NHS when it is
- ask you to pay a deposit before a check-up
- ask you to pay for treatment before examining you
