About the Code of Practice

Disclosure Scotland has rules about how people must use disclosure information. These rules are set out in a Code of Practice.

The code applies to people who deal with disclosure information in organisations. Disclosure information covers any criminal history information included on higher level disclosures.

Following the code is a legal responsibility, which means you must follow it or else you may be committing an offence.

The purpose of the code is to:

  • ensure information is used properly and lawfully
  • give assurance to people about the use of their information
  • ensure information is stored and disposed appropriately

This guide includes important information from the code. For more details you can view the full Code of Practice.
