What to do if circumstances change during the transfer

Why you need to contact the Department for Work and Pensions

If your needs or personal details change, you need to tell the Department for Work and Pensions as soon as possible until your award begins with Social Security Scotland.

This is because the Department for Work and Pensions holds the information about your benefit until Social Security Scotland takes over your payments.

The Department for Work and Pensions will then pass that information along to Social Security Scotland.

Warning

You must let the Department for Work and Pensions know that your address has changed as soon as possible after you have moved house.

Contact the Department for Work and Pensions

You can tell the Department for Work and Pensions about a change by calling 0800 121 4600.

Social Security Scotland need you to tell the Department for Work and Pensions about any changes to make sure:

  • you're paid the right amount for your needs
  • you're not paid too much or too little

Withholding new information which may affect your award may be an offence.
