Building warrants
You need a building warrant if your building plans include:
- alterations
- extensions
- conversions
- demolishing part or the whole of a building
- building a new home
- changing the structure of a building

You may also need to apply for planning permission if you're:

- extending your current home
If you need a building warrant and do not get one, your local council can fine you. They can also order you to remove the new building work.
