Claiming back VAT on a self-build home
You can reclaim some of the VAT you've paid when building a new home through the DIY housebuilders scheme.
You can get a refund on VAT paid for some building materials, as long as:
- the type of home you build qualifies for a VAT refund
- you keep records of what you bought
- you submit a claim within 6 months of the build being finished
You can only make one claim for a VAT refund under the scheme.
