The 2017 Regulations

The Scottish Government introduced new regulations for private water supplies that:

  • supply 50 or more people, or more than 10m3 of water a day
  • form part of a commercial or public activity
  • are used in a commercial or public activity (for example at village halls, in restaurants and hotels, or on campsites)

Under these regulations, rented properties are considered commercial premises.

Smaller, domestic supplies for homeowners aren't covered by these regulations.
