Increasing the rent for a short assured tenancy
If your tenant has a short assured tenancy, you cannot increase the rent during the fixed term of the tenancy.
You can only increase the rent when renewing the tenancy agreement at the end of the fixed term.
If your tenant does not accept the rent increase
They can take you to a tribunal about the rent increase. The tribunal is called the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber).
The tribunal will decide if the rent increase is too high.
They must apply to the tribunal before the new rent takes effect.
