Get ready for your benefit review

Many people are asked to review their disability benefit at some point. If you're due a review, it's not something you need to worry about. Social Security Scotland will get in touch 30 days before the review begins.

You do not need to do anything before the review begins, but if you want to, there are ways you can prepare.

Ways to prepare

Your review will begin when you get your review pack in the post.

The pack will tell you the name of the benefit, how much you get and why you get it.

When your review begins, you'll be asked to answer questions about your daily needs and the care you get. It's helpful to have to hand:

  1. Your National Insurance number.
  2. The bank account details that Social Security Scotland pays into.
  3. Details of any changes to your needs or the care you get.
  4. The date the changes happened, or will happen (they do not need to be exact).

You can find your National Insurance number on your:

  • National Insurance card
  • benefit letter
  • payslip
  • P60

When to ask for help

You can also get help. It's a good idea to call Social Security Scotland free on 0800 182 2222 if you:

  • are the appointee for someone
  • cannot find your National Insurance number
  • do not have a permanent address
  • are moving to an address outside the UK
  • do not have a bank account and want to get payments the way you did with the Department for Work and Pensions
  • want to change your payment details
  • are reporting a change for someone else
  • want to stop getting payments or report a death
