How to use a Blue Badge in Scotland
A Blue Badge is a card that lets you park closer to where you're going.
You can use a Blue Badge in a vehicle as:
- a driver
- a passenger
- an organisation transporting people who would qualify for a Blue Badge
Blue Badge holders are allowed to park in some places that other vehicles are not.
The driver must obey The Highway Code.
You must follow the rules when using a Blue Badge. If you do not follow the rules:
- you may get a fine
- your Blue Badge may be taken away
If you need help with a Blue Badge
Your local council can help if you have any issues with your Blue Badge. For example if you:
- change your name, address or other personal information and need to update your Blue Badge
- have any questions about using a Blue Badge
- want to make a complaint
Visitors from outside the UK
If you’re visiting Scotland from outside the UK, you may be able to use your disability parking permit from your home country.
You should contact the local council where you want to park to check.

Rights and responsibilities leaflet
You may have got a leaflet called ‘The Blue Badge Scheme: Rights and responsibilities’ with your Blue Badge. This was printed in 2022.
This web guide covers most of the same information and has been updated.
You can ask your local council for a copy of the leaflet.
There is an easy read version of ‘The Blue Badge Scheme: Rights and responsibilities’.
It has the essential information about using a Blue Badge and uses pictures to help you understand the text.
