Forced Marriage Protection Orders
You can ask the court for a Forced Marriage Protection Order.
Each order is different. The court will make your order to protect you in your specific situation.
For example, the court may ban someone from:
- taking your passport away
- intimidating you with threats and violence
Support organisations or your local council can:
- tell you how to do this
- make an application on your behalf
In an emergency, the court can make an order to protect you immediately.
Disobeying a Forced Marriage Protection Order can result in a sentence of up to 2 years in prison and a fine of up to £10,000.
