Refunds for disclosures

Last updated: 20 November 2020
We prioritise checks for coronavirus (COVID-19) response workers. You will not have to pay for their disclosures. This will remain in place until midnight on Friday 25 December 2020. The Scottish Parliament is considering a proposal to extend this exemption until 25 March 2021. We'll update this page once a decision has been made.

Disclosure Scotland will only give you a refund if:

  • they cannot process the disclosure check after you've given them all the information they need
  • they send you an incorrect certificate and you do not want a corrected one
  • you make a credit/debit card payment online through Disclosure Scotland's payment portal when filling in a paper application, but do not send the paper application within 21 days of paying
  • you applied after the 23 March 2020 and paid Disclosure Scotland directly for a disclosure about a coronavirus response worker

You cannot get a refund if:

  • you do not need a disclosure anymore
  • you were not offered the post that you needed the disclosure for
  • it takes longer than you expected to get your disclosure
  • you want to leave the PVG scheme
  • you're not allowed to become a member of the PVG scheme
  • Disclosure Scotland refuses a registration or counter signatory nomination
