Overview
Scottish Carer Supplement has replaced Carer’s Allowance Supplement for most carers in Scotland.
If you get Scottish Carer Supplement on top of your Carer Support Payment you will not get Carer's Allowance Supplement.

Only a small number of people will continue to get Carer's Allowance Supplement for example, people:
- living abroad
- who were 65 or over in 2002 and continue to get Carer's Allowance
Payments
Payments of Carer's Allowance Supplement are made in June and December.
You'll get a letter if you're being paid. It'll include the payment date and amount.
June 2026 payment
The next payment of £304.65 is in June.
You'll get this amount if you were getting Carer Support Payment or Carer's Allowance on 13 April 2026 and you did not get Scottish Carer Supplement.
December 2026 payment
The December payment will be £304.65.
You'll get this amount if you are getting Carer Support Payment or Carer's Allowance on 12 October 2026 and you do not get Scottish Carer Supplement.
If your award is backdated
If your Carer Support Payment award has been backdated to include a qualifying date, you'll be paid any Carer's Allowance Supplement you're due on the next payment date. You will not get Carer’s Allowance Supplement if you have already been paid Scottish Carer Supplement for the same date.
Social Security Scotland will send you a letter to tell you about the amount you’re due based on your qualifying date.
You do not need to do anything.
Carer's Allowance Supplement does not affect other benefits. You do not need to tell Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) or your council about this payment.
Carer's Allowance Supplement and your income tax
You may have to pay more income tax on your Carer's Allowance Supplement. Most people do not pay tax if their income is under a certain amount.
