Fuel vouchers
If you cannot afford to top up your prepayment meter, you could get a fuel voucher from the Fuel Bank Foundation.
You can get a voucher if you:
- have no credit on your prepayment meter
- will run out of credit in the next 2 to 3 days
- are having to cut back on essentials to stay in credit – for example, food
The voucher will give you ten days' worth of energy. The amount changes monthly. It's based on the average cost of energy each month.
How to get Fuel Bank Foundation vouchers
Contact your energy supplier first and ask about Fuel Bank Foundation vouchers. They might be able to:
- give you a voucher
- tell you where you can get one
Alternatively, you can contact:
- your local council
- food banks – if you have a referral
- Citizens Advice Scotland
They'll:
- ask you for information about your situation
- apply to Fuel Bank Foundation for you
You can choose to get the voucher by:
- text
- post
You’ll usually get the voucher on the same day. It’ll take longer if you get it by post.
