Order a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate
You can order a certificate:
- online from Scotland's People
- from your local council
You'll need the:
- full name of the person on the certificate
- date of birth
- place the event took place, for example where they were born
Ordering online
You can order a certificate from Scotland’s People.
A certificate costs £12. Additional copies of the same certificate will cost £10 each.
It usually takes 15 working days to dispatch an order.
Urgent orders
You can pay extra for dispatch on the same working day, or the next working day. There’s more information about this on Scotland’s People.
This includes urgent orders for adoption birth certificates and no trace divorce letters.
