Replace or update your under 22s bus pass
Replace your bus pass
Contact your local council to replace your bus pass if:
- it's lost, stolen or damaged
- it does not work when you use the ticket machine
- you want to change your name, address or photo
If you need to change your details on your National Entitlement Card (NEC), you'll need to provide proof of your new name or address, or a new photo to your local council.
If you move to a different council area, you'll also need to let your new council know.
Find contact details for your local council on Transport Scotland.
You can also get a new bus pass on getyournec.scot but you'll need to make a new application. If you apply for a replacement online, you'll need to send all your information and evidence again.
If you've already linked your card on the Young Scot app and your details have not changed, you can order a replacement through the app.
After you've applied for a replacement pass
After you've applied for a replacement, your old card will stop working. As soon as your new card arrives, you should start using it and destroy your old card. You'll have to pay the bus fare until your new pass arrives.
It can take up to 2 weeks for your replacement bus pass to arrive. Contact your local council or getyournec.scot if you've not had your new pass within 2 weeks.
Remove free bus travel from your NEC
Removing free bus travel for a child aged 5 to 15
If the bus pass holder is aged 5 to 15, their parent, carer or guardian must remove their access to free bus travel. The child cannot do this themselves.
If you're the parent, carer or guardian, you can remove access to free bus travel:
- online at getyournec.scot
- by contacting your local council
Once you've removed their access to free bus travel, your child's NEC will be cancelled and you should destroy it. If they need their NEC for anything else, you can request a replacement that does not include free bus travel.
You cannot remove access to free bus travel for a young person aged 16 or over – they must do this themselves.
Removing free bus travel if you're aged 16 to 21
You can remove access to free bus travel from your card:
- online at getyournec.scot
- by contacting your local council
You'll need to pay the bus fare once free bus travel is removed from your NEC.
You cannot reactivate free bus travel once it's removed. If you need free bus travel again, you'll need to apply for a new bus pass.
