Quality Meat Scotland assurance and licensing schemes

There are 3 premium brands in the Scottish red meat industry:

  • Scotch Beef PGI
  • Scotch Lamb PGI
  • Specially Selected Pork

Red meat in Scotland can only carry these brands if the livestock was born, reared and slaughtered in Scotland, and spent their entire life on Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) assured holdings.

You must apply to Quality Meat Scotland to get QMS assurance and apply for a brand licence. There are 6 different assurance schemes:

  • auction market scheme
  • cattle and sheep scheme
  • pigs scheme
  • feeds scheme
  • haulage scheme
  • processor scheme

Visit the Quality Meat Scotland website for more information on how to get assurance through these schemes, and how to apply for premium branding.
