Population data

You can find out about Scotland’s population using data from Scotland’s Census.

Scotland’s Census is the official count of every person and household in the country. There has been a census in Scotland about every 10 years since 1801.

The next census in Scotland will be on Sunday 20 March 2022.

You can get other population data from statistics.gov.scot, such as:

  • births
  • deaths
  • life expectancy
  • migration
  • estimates of population changes in the future
