Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland
The Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland (PSCS) exists to champion safer care across Scotland's health and care system.
It was established under the Patient Safety Commissioner for Scotland Act 2023.
The PSCS:
- is an independent office
- reports publicly to Parliament
- focuses on systemic patient safety improvement
- has authority to investigate themes and make recommendations
The PSCS focuses on system learning and risk reduction. It’s not a:
- regulator
- complaints body
- inspector
