Bus pass not required

As the child is under 5 years old, they do not require a bus pass. Bus travel is free for under 5s.

You can apply for an under 22s bus pass for the child if they turn 5 in the next 2 weeks.

The child or young person's parent, carer or guardian must apply on their behalf

There are a number of ways to apply for their under 22s bus pass.

What you need to apply

You'll need:

  • proof of your identity
  • proof of your relationship to the child or young person
  • proof of your address
  • proof of the child or young person's identity
  • a recent photo of the child or young person if they're aged 11 or over
  • proof of the child or young person's address if they do not live with you

If the child or young person has a disability

You can choose between the disabled person's bus pass and the under 22s bus pass.

Companions cannot travel for free on the under 22s bus pass. If the child or young person needs someone to travel with them for free, they can only get this with the disabled person's bus pass.

Some local councils also provide discounted travel on trains, trams or the subway with a disabled person's bus pass.

A disabled person's bus pass is valid for a maximum of 3 years.

Transport Scot Pass Collect app

If you already have an active National Entitlement Card issued before 10 January 2022, you can download free bus travel onto your existing card on the Transport Scot Pass Collect app.
