  • improving mental health and wellbeing
  • building more innovative and competitive businesses

Fairer working conditions will drive success, wellbeing and growth for people working in Scotland.

The Fair Work Framework

The Fair Work Convention acts as an independent advisory body to Scottish Ministers.

The convention's 'Fair Work Framework' underpins the Scottish Government’s Fair Work policy and approach. It outlines what employers can do to build fairer working practices into their organisations.

There are 5 dimensions in the framework:

  • security – secure jobs with fair pay and conditions
  • opportunity – for workers to progress
  • fulfilment – supporting workers and creating a sense of community
  • respect – recognising the value and contributions of all workers
  • effective voice – giving workers the chance to speak out and be listened to

Each dimension describes how organisations can:

  • generate benefits for workers, organisations and society
  • balance the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers
  • take gradual, incremental steps towards a fairer working environment
