Fair Work First in procurement

The Scottish Government expects public bodies to practise and promote Fair Work First principles in all relevant procurement processes.

Learn more about what Fair Work First means for employers living in Scotland

Fair Work First encourages businesses bidding for a public contract to:

  • pay workers involved in delivering the contract at least the real Living Wage – find out more about the real Living Wage on livingwage.org.uk
  • provide channels for workers to have a say in their organisation – for example, trade union recognition
  • invest in development of the workforce
  • avoid inappropriate use of zero hours contracts
  • offer flexible working practices to all workers
  • address workplace inequalities – including pay and employment gaps
  • oppose the use of fire and rehire practices
