Refunds for disclosures

Disclosure Scotland will only give you a refund if:

  • they cannot process your disclosure application after you've given them all the information they need
  • they send you an incorrect disclosure and you do not want a corrected one
  • you make a credit/debit card payment online through Disclosure Scotland's payment portal when filling in a paper application, but do not send the paper application within 21 days of paying
  • you paid for an online PVG application by card but the application expired

From 1 April to 1 July 2025, if we have issued you with a criminal record certificate or enhanced criminal record certificate prior to 1 April 2025 which contains conviction information which falls within section 116ZA(1A) of the 1997 Act or section 52(5) of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 for a scheme record, and you have started proceedings with the sheriff court to have these convictions removed:

  • if you withdraw from court proceedings and submit a new application for a Level 2 disclosure, the fee for the Level 2 disclosure will be refunded
  • you must first submit a normal Level 2 application and the fee must be paid

You cannot get a refund if:

  • you do not need a disclosure anymore
  • you were not offered the post that you needed the disclosure for
  • it takes longer than you expected to get your disclosure
  • you want to leave the PVG scheme
  • you're not allowed to become a member of the PVG scheme
  • Disclosure Scotland refuses a registration or countersignatory nomination
