What makes a workplace ‘healthy’

Healthy workplaces are diverse and inclusive of everyone.

They provide support and guidance to all workers, regardless of age, background, role or status. This may include:

  • flexible working patterns
  • staff networks – where workers can raise issues and be heard
  • robust conflict resolution processes – so workers can resolve issues easily
  • the real Living Wage
  • training to equip managers with relevant knowledge, resources and support they can sign-post to

Healthy workplaces also prioritise attendance and have measures in place to support staff coming to work, including:

  • occupational health
  • accessibility – both in the office and working remotely
  • support and guidance for when someone is off sick or returning to work

Why creating a healthy workplaces is important

Healthy workplaces are good for employee health and wellbeing. Workers are more likely to enjoy the work they do and treat their employer with respect.

By investing in our staff – including providing free gym memberships, flexible working options and peer to peer support – we are building an organisation that is not only a great place to work but one that can truly make a difference in our local communities." When working conditions are better for staff, your organisation is likely to have:

  • fewer sick days
  • lower turnaround of staff
