Promoting effective voices

As a Fair Work employer, you can give your workers a real voice. Aim to listen to their views and act on them.

You can do this by:

  • asking for employee input into business decisions
  • collective problem-solving
  • working together
  • asking workers how the organisation can improve

Giving workers a voice helps them to:

  • have a better experience in work
  • feel more involved
  • plan and decide their own working life
  • deal with challenges constructively

It can also improve your organisation’s performance.

How to promote effective voice in your organisation

Getting started

Offer workers a two-way communication channel so that they feel that their voices are being heard and they are influencing change. This could be:

  • informal catchups
  • weekly meetings
  • employee surveys
  • trade union recognition
  • collective bargaining

Talk to workers to understand what communication channels they prefer.
