How to apply for the Transition Fund

The Transition Fund is provided by Independent Living Fund Scotland (ILF Scotland).

You can apply online on the ILF Scotland website.

A family member, friend or someone who supports you can help you apply.

What you need to apply

To apply to the Transition Fund you need:

  • your National Insurance number
  • proof of address dated in the last 12 months – for example, a bank letter, utility bill, benefit statement
  • a document to confirm your disability or impairment

When you apply, you need to explain what you need the money for and why. 

How to confirm your disability or impairment

You need to include a document that confirms your disability or impairment.

You can use a copy of a benefits letter for:

  • Disability Living Allowance 
  • Adult Disability Payment 
  • Child Disability Payment 
  • Personal Independence Payment

You can also use a letter from someone who can confirm your disability, such as your:

  • teacher or lecturer
  • doctor, nurse or therapist
  • social worker
  • social care worker or key worker
  • careers adviser or job coach

Ask them to fill in the confirmation of disability letter template on the ILF Scotland website.

After you apply

ILF Scotland will send you an email or letter to say they’ve received your application.

They’ll try to process your application within 19 weeks, but it can take longer.
