Funding available to connect to the public water network
If your community has experienced water scarcity, you could get funding to help you connect to the public water network.
The funding covers:
- the cost of a water impact assessment by Scottish Water to decide if you can be shortlisted for connection
- if your community is shortlisted, extending the public water mains to your property boundary
The funding does not cover the cost of connecting from the boundary to the stop valve within your property. You'll need to pay for this yourself.
Scottish Water has guidance for connecting a single property to the public water network.
Who can get this funding
You can only get funding if your local council has nominated your community for a water impact assessment from Scottish Water.
To be nominated, your community must:
- have experienced water scarcity
- be a short distance from the public water mains
- be able to allow Scottish Water access to connect and maintain the supply
- have more than 2 properties seeking connection to the public network
- have a general willingness to connect to the public network
Check if your community has been nominated
If you think your private water supply meets the criteria for nomination or if you have any other questions, contact your local council's Environmental Health team. You can also email the Scottish Government drinking water policy team at waterindustry@gov.scot.
