What is the Register of Tobacco and Vaping Product Retailers
The Register of Tobacco and Vaping Product Retailers (Retail Register) is a list of businesses that are registered to sell these products in Scotland.
Anyone can search the Retail Register on gov.scot.
Trading standards officers use the Retail Register to enforce rules about selling tobacco and nicotine vapour products to young people under 18.
Who must join
You must join the Retail Register if you sell tobacco or nicotine vapour products to the public.
Examples include:
- cigarettes
- vapes
- e-liquids
- refillable vape devices
- cigars
- rolling tobacco
You do not need to join if you only sell these products to other businesses – known as 'wholesale'.
If you do not join
If you sell tobacco or nicotine vapour products you must join the Retail Register. If you do not join the Retail Register you could:
- get a fine of up to £20,000
- get an on the spot fine of £200
- be banned from selling tobacco and vapour products for up to 24 months
- have your tobacco or vapour products seized
