If your private landlord does not do repairs
If you’ve reported repairs to your landlord, and they have not done the repair work, you can take them to a tribunal.
The tribunal is called the First-Tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber).
What the tribunal can do
The tribunal can:
- hold a hearing
- inspect the property
- decide if the property meets the required standard of repair
The tribunal can give your landlord a Repairing Standard Enforcement Order. This tells them what repair work to do, and when they must do it by.
It’s a criminal offence for your landlord to ignore this order.
How to apply to the tribunal
Use application form A (Repairs Application) to apply. Get form A and notes on completing it on the tribunal website.
You’ll need to provide copies of:
- your tenancy agreement
- copies of letters or emails you sent your landlord to report the repairs
- any evidence you have, such as photos
There’s no cost to apply to the tribunal.
