Employing people

The same basic employment terms and conditions apply to all workers in the UK even if you bring those workers to the UK from another country, eg you must pay your workers at least the National Minimum Wage (NMW).

Employing people in the UK

Check the 7 things you need to do when employing staff for the first time.

You must have a contract with your employees that sets out your employees:

  • employment conditions
  • rights
  • responsibilities
  • duties

Bringing workers to the UK

Before you bring a worker from another country you need to check they're allowed to work in the UK.

You'll need to see documents to prove this.

Sponsoring temporary workers

You may be able to sponsor workers to come and work in the UK.

To do so you need a licence.

As a sponsor it's your responsibility to make sure your workers continue to be eligible to work in the UK and that immigration controls are followed.
