Check if you need to apply

You might need to apply for Pension Age Winter Heating Payment if you:

• deferred your State Pension
• are a couple with a joint award for Pension Credit, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support or Universal Credit and the main person getting that benefit is under State Pension age

If you’re eligible and none of these apply to you, you’ll be paid automatically.

Call from within the UK

You can call Social Security Scotland free on 0800 182 2222 to apply for Pension Age Winter Heating Payment. Opening times are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Before you call, you’ll need to know:

• your National Insurance number
• your bank or building society details

You’ll also need to remember what your circumstances were during the qualifying week, including:

• where you lived
• what benefits you got
