Keeping information up-to-date

You must update your details on the database e.g. if you move house or get a dog that's already microchipped.

Your database operator will be able to tell you how to do this.

If you don't know which database your dog is registered on, any of the databases that meet government standards should be able to tell you. You'll need to give them your dog's microchip number.

If you don't know your dog's microchip number, you can take it to a vet or a dog rescue centre to have it scanned.

The full details that are recorded on databases are available on Legislation.gov.

Having out of date information could lead to a:

  • fine of up to £500
  • court case against you
It's an offence to pass on a dog to someone else without making sure your details are up to date first.
