How much will it cost?

The average cost of getting your dog microchipped and registered on a database is £10.90.

Some councils will microchip dogs for between £8–15. Vets may charge up to £30.

Some database companies charge for updating information. You can ask when your dog is first registered if there will be a charge to do this.

Free microchipping

The Dogs Trust offers free microchipping in Scotland. You can make an appointment at one of their rehoming centres in Glasgow or West Calder.

If you're on benefits you may be able to get your dog microchipped for free at a PDSA centre. Find out if you're eligible on the charity's website.
