Guidance – Blue Badge exemption
Use this guidance to help you register for a Blue Badge exemption.
Registering an account
The account details registered should be for the person who holds the Blue Badge and be the same as displayed on the Blue Badge.
Each Blue Badge can only be linked to one account. The account must be activated via email before you can use it.
Check your spam or junk folders. Make sure your settings allow emails from donotreply-transportscotland@paysmarti.co.uk
Applying on someone’s behalf
If you are applying on behalf of a Blue Badge holder, you should only enter their details when registering the account.
The Blue Badge holder should decide which email address is used to register their account. This is how we will contact them about any changes to their account.
Using the wrong email address
To change the email address registered to your account, email LEZBlueBadge@transport.gov.scot
Changing your account details
- On your account, select ‘My details’ to display all your current details.
- Select the change button under the details you wish to change.
- If you are trying to change your Blue Badge details, select ‘+Add’ to update these.
Uploading documents
To upload documents to an application you already started, follow these instructions.
Make sure you have two separate images of your Blue Badge saved to your device – one of each side. Save these files under two different names if you can, such as ‘BB Front’ and ‘BB Back’.
- Select ‘My applications’.
- Find the exemption application you started and select the ‘…’ symbol.
- Select ‘Upload supporting documents’.
- Select ‘+Add document’ at the bottom of the page.
- Select the document type from the dropdown menu, select ‘Browse’ and select the correct image of your Blue Badge then select ‘Add’.
- Repeat the previous step for the second image of your Blue Badge.
- Once both images are uploaded, select ‘Upload documents’ at the bottom of the page then select ‘Proceed’.
- The application confirmation page should now show, confirming your exemption has been registered.
Registering exemption errors
You can only register one long-term and 2 one-day exemptions per Blue Badge.
If you are trying to register more than this, you will see an error message: 'There is a limit on the number of permits allowed under this account. This permit cannot be issued at this time.'
To register your exemption to a different vehicle, you will need to change your exemption vehicle.
Changing your exemption vehicle
- On your account, select ‘My exemptions’.
- Find the exemption you wish to change and click the green car/‘vehicles’ button next to it.
- Select the pencil/‘amend’ button next to the current registration number.
- Enter your new vehicle registration number and select ‘Save’.
Multiple vehicles
If you have multiple non-compliant vehicles which you often travel in, use the long-term exemption for the vehicle you use most often.
Use the one-day exemptions for the other vehicles when you need them.
