If you're being evicted - private tenant

Last updated: 9 October 2017

Overview

If you're renting your home from a private landlord or letting agency, there are some situations that might lead to you being evicted.

If you're evicted, this means you have to move out of the home and find somewhere else to live.

You have to be given a notice period before you're evicted, so you have time to prepare.

The process you and your landlord have to go through will depend on whether you're an assured tenant or a short assured tenant.

If you don't know whether you're an assured or short assured tenant, Shelter Scotland has a tenancy checker which will tell you.
