Finding your birth family if you've been adopted
You can access your court and adoption records when you turn 16. You'll be able to find out details about your birth family and decide if you want to contact them. You do not have to contact them if you do not want to.

Support to find your birth family
You may want to get support or counselling before you trace your birth family. This can prepare you for what to expect, including if you're unable to find your birth family or if they do not want to have contact with you.
You can get support from:

- the adoption agency who arranged your adoption
- adoption charities
