Super Sponsor Scheme hosts

From 13 July 2022, the Scottish Super Sponsor Scheme has been temporarily paused for new applications. We're doing this to make sure we can provide support and sanctuary to those displaced people from Ukraine who are either already in Scotland or will shortly be arriving.

If you made your application under the Super Sponsor Scheme before 13 July 2022, it will be processed.

If you have been issued a visa under the Super Sponsor Scheme, your visa is valid and you can travel to Scotland where you will receive a warm welcome.

You can find out more about the pausing of the scheme on

What the Super Sponsor Scheme is

The Scottish Government is a Super Sponsor of Homes for Ukraine.

The Super Sponsor Scheme may be a quicker and safer way for people from Ukraine to enter the UK. It allows them to come to Scotland and be matched with a suitable host later.

This means Ukrainians who apply for a UK visa can choose the Scottish Government as their visa sponsor instead of finding someone in the UK to sponsor them.

Taking part in the Super Sponsor Scheme

If you register with Homes for Ukraine we’ll contact you to ask if you want to be part of the Super Sponsor Scheme.

If you agree you’ll be a ‘host’ under the scheme - offering a home. We'll be the sponsor.

We'll then do checks to make sure both you and the home you’re offering are suitable.

If you pass the checks, we’ll work with local councils to match you.

If you do not want to take part in the Super Sponsor Scheme

If you do not want to be part of the Super Sponsor Scheme you can find your own match under the UK Government.

This means you may be the visa sponsor, known as a 'named sponsor',  as well as the host.

If you're already hosting someone from Ukraine

You need to contact your local council if you’ve not done this already.

This is if you, either:

  • are already hosting someone from Ukraine
  • have a date for someone from Ukraine to arrive

Your local council needs to complete checks before you can host a guest. This is for the safety of you and your guest.

You cannot get the £350 monthly 'thank you' payment until the council completes these checks.
