Guinness Asset Management Limited manages the Guinness EIS Fund.
Guinness Asset Management is a specialist energy investor with that was founded in 2002 by Tim Guinness. In previous years the organisation raised and invested the Guinness Renewable Energy EIS Funds in UK renewable energy companies. It also manages the Guinness Global Energy Fund and the Guinness Alternative Energy Fund.
The Guinness EIS Fund Fund has been established to provide investors with access to attract investment opportunities in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in the UK that are eligible for Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) tax reliefs.
The Fund will target "attractive risk-weighted returns" by making investments in Sustainable Infrastructure companies which have predictable revenues, low technology risk and low correlation with other asset classes.
The Fund’s Investment Manager believes that well-managed investments in Sustainable Infrastructure can provide an attractive risk/return trade-off for investors. Investments typically involve working with blue-chip counterparties who deliver long-term, stable and sometimes inflation-linked cash flows. Risks can be mitigated by using established equipment technologies manufactured by large and stable organisations who will in some cases guarantee performance.
Many new investors are expected to make EIS investments as a means of diversifying their portfolios, generating returns with low correlations to the equity markets and making investments that have attractive tax benefits. The Guinness EIS Fund is making investments at the lower-risk end of investments.
Although there are no specific exclusions cited within the programme guidelines, those wishing to apply are advised to liaise with the sponsor in the first instance to discuss eligibility.
This fund will invest in UK-based Sustainable Infrastructure companies through the tax-efficient EIS structure.
The remainder of any necessary funds must be secured by the applicant.
Investment opportunities are available in renewable energy and energy efficiency companies. Renewable energy investment opportunities include hydroelectric and biomass projects, while energy efficiency projects focus on reducing energy costs in office and commercial buildings. This is achieved by making improvements such as installing LED lighting or insulation for buildings and sharing the cost saving benefits of these installations with the user of the building.
