Provides equity funding for small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK to enable them to grow.
Investments will generally range from £1 million - £5 million in the first round and subsequently further capital through follow-on investments can be made.
The IQ Capital Fund, funded through the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) provides equity funding for small and medium sized enterprises to enable them to grow where the investment round is led by an experienced lead angel investor with whom IQC will develop the growth potential of the enterprise.
ECFs will not be permitted to invest in the following sensitive sectors for which the guidelines on state aid and risk capital do not apply:
- Synthetic fibres and yarns.
- Motor vehicles.
- Steel - ECSC products.
- Steel - non-ECSC products.
- The production of agricultural and fisheries products listed in Annex I referred to in Article 32 of the EC Treaty.
Investment is aimed at seed and early stage 'disruptive' companies in high technology sectors (ICT, life sciences, green technology etc.) which have at least near term prospects for generating revenue, and also fast growing companies in more traditional sectors (up to 30% of the fund may be invested in non-tech companies or development capital opportunities).
Investment will only be made when applicants have the backing of an 'IQ Angel' - an investor with expert knowledge of the sector - is co-investing more than £25,000.
