Electrical waste: retailer and distributor responsibilities

Last updated: 29 June 2017

Join the Distributor Takeback Scheme

You can join the Distributor Take back Scheme (DTS) instead of providing a take back service.

You pay a fee that covers your waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) obligations until at least January 2017. The fee depends on how much electrical and electronic equipment you sell. This money goes towards supporting the recycling centres run by local authorities.

With DTS you don't have to take back any waste electrical and electronic equipment, store it, or dispose of it.

You will need to keep a record of what information you give to your customers about where they should take their electrical and electronic waste.

There is an alternative DTS scheme for distributors of photovoltaic panels.
