Create a tenant notice to leave

Use this service to create a notice to leave for a tenant with a private residential tenancy.

You need to send them this notice as part of the process for ending a private residential tenancy.

The process is different for ending other types of tenancy. Check the rules for ending different tenancy types.

What you’ll need

To create a notice to leave, you’ll need the following information:

  • your name
  • your tenant’s name
  • the property’s address
  • the reasons you want to end the tenancy, called the ‘eviction grounds'
  • the end of the notice period – the date the tenant must move out by

Create the notice online

You can use our online form to create the notice. This will automatically work out the notice period. You’ll be able to download the completed notice to give your tenant.

You must complete the full form. You cannot save and return to it.
