Other benefits related to Child Disability Payment

You, the child, or another of the child’s carers might also qualify for related benefits or assistance. The rate of care and mobility within the Child Disability Payment award will have an effect on what you can apply for. 

Keep the letter from Social Security Scotland about Child Disability Payment. It will also include a certificate of entitlement if higher rate mobility is part of the award. You can use this to apply for other benefits and assistance.

Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

Related benefits and assistance include:

  • free road tax
  • a provisional driving licence at age 16 (available from November 2021)

These apply when the child or young person gets higher rate mobility as part of their Child Disability Payment award.

Motability

If you're responsible for someone who gets Child Disability Payment, you can apply to lease a vehicle through the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme.

If you're aged 16 or over, and able to manage your own payments, you might be able to lease a vehicle yourself.

These apply when higher rate mobility is part of the Child Disability Payment award.

HM Revenue and Customs

If you’re currently getting Child Tax Credits, you might be entitled to additional elements as part of your award.

If you’re caring for someone who gets Child Disability Payment, you might be able to apply for Carer’s Allowance.

If you do not qualify for Carer’s Allowance, you might be able to apply for Carer's Credit

Income-based benefits

If you already get one of the following benefits, you might be entitled to extra support:

Social Security Scotland 

You might be able to apply for a Young Carer Grant if you’re:

  • aged 16, 17 or 18
  • caring for someone who gets Child Disability Payment

This applies when the child or young person gets the middle or highest rate of care as part of their Child Disability Payment award.

If you already get Carer’s Allowance, you might also be entitled to a Carer’s Allowance Supplement.

If the Child Disability Payment award changes

You should contact related benefit providers if there are any changes to the Child Disability Payment award as this could affect payments.
