BGF will provide £200 million of investable capital as well as support from its established regional platform, meaning the team can focus on investing in Britain’s best entrepreneurial talent.

Typical investments will be £1-6 million in series A or B rounds.

The British Growth Fund (BGF) is expanding its activities with the launch of the largest ever venture capital fund dedicated to earlier stage UK technology companies.

The initial team will be Rory Stirling and Harry Briggs, both of whom bring venture experience from MMC Ventures and Balderton Capital respectively, and Simon Calver, former chief executive of LOVEFiLM.

BGF Ventures back UK technology entrepreneurs and businesses with ambitions to disrupt large markets. BGF is looking for technology-based businesses that have revenue and a good management team. They will have built sales, but are yet to scale significantly or turn profitable.

Technology is a very broad category, including software, consumer-based innovation and new business models. BGF is interested in businesses that are looking to redefine a consumer or B2B market by offering a service or product that will create significant disruption.

Although there are no specific exclusions cited, those wishing to apply are advised to liaise with the funding provider to discuss eligibility.
