Who automatically qualifies for a Blue Badge
Some people automatically qualify for a Blue Badge.
You may have to send copies of documents about benefit payments or your health when you apply.
Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you got:
- 8 points or more in the ‘moving around’ activity
- 12 points in the ‘planning and following a journey’ activity
- the enhanced rate of the mobility component under Special Rules for Terminal Illness
Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.
Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (Scottish Adult DLA)
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you:
- scored 8 points or more in the 'moving around' area of your assessment
- scored 12 points in the 'planning and following a journey' area of your assessment
- used to get the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA on an indefinite or lifetime basis
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if both:
- you’re appealing your PIP decision
- you used to get the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA
Child Disability Payment (CDP)
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.
Visual impairment
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you’re either:
- under 16 and have a letter confirming your eligibility from your visual impairment care team
- 16 or over and registered or certified as severely sight impaired
Veteran's payments
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get a War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement.
You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you both:
- got a lump sum payment from tariffs 1 to 8 of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
- have been certified as having a permanent and substantial disability
Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
If you have been diagnosed with MND, your specialist nurse can help you apply for a Blue Badge.
