Adoption costs and pay

Adoption agencies cannot charge you a fee to apply to adopt a child in Scotland. However, you may have to pay for medical assessments, court fees and a police check for an adoption order.

Ask your adoption agency if they cover all the costs for you to adopt a child.

There are different fees and costs you may need to pay if you're adopting a child from abroad.

Adoption pay and leave

When you take time off work to adopt a child, you may be eligible for:
