Being an attorney

If you take on the role of attorney, you need to be clear about the responsibilities involved. You shouldn't take this on unless you feel comfortable with what's involved. If you do not feel you could formally act on someone else's behalf, you do not have to agree to be an attorney.

If you're a welfare attorney, you may be taking important decisions about the person's future care and support.

If you're a continuing power of attorney, you'll need to keep receipts and a record of financial decisions you've taken.
